West Coast spring flowers & craft beers

I am a sucker for road trips. Any “excuse” really to get out there and explore! That’s what makes Cape Town and the stunning surrounding areas so awesome.  There are seemingly endless and easily accessible options for day trips. Whether you love the beach, enjoy mountain or forest hikes, shopping at a local market or exploring the many beautiful wine estates the Cape has to offer.  So many options, so little time!

So I sweetly suggested to hubby that we take advantage of the South African National Parks (SANParks) annual week-long campaign where South African residents have free access to nearly all of the 21 national parks from Monday, 12 to Friday, 16 September 2016 (depending on the park selected). Family fun at the Thursday Food Market

One thing I noticed almost immediately when we moved to Pinelands nearly 3 years ago, is that there is a genuine sense of community spirit. It’s something we haven’t really experienced in the time that we’ve lived in Cape Town.  It’s evident at the Thursday Food Market at The Pinelands Club in Lonsdale Way (5pm – 830pm).

This weekly food market is very popular among the Pinelands community and we try to go at least twice a month. It’s a great spot to catch up with family and friends, enjoy a leisurely meal (yay for no cooking!) over a drink or two.

There are many familiar faces including the friendly food vendors that sell their delicious homemade goodies.  Whether you’re in the mood for Mexican, Thai, Greek or Indian food, they’ve got it. Maybe pork roast with crunchy crackling and all the trimmings? Banters are catered for as well. Generously filled schwarmas and wraps feature too and those with a sweet tooth will not be disappointed.

Roadtrippin’ with my favourite ally

I am one of those people that has eternal wanderlust. One of my favourite things to do is explore new places, people and spaces. If you ask anyone that knows me, they will tell you that I would love to hop on a plane at any given moment and just go … anywhere! As I am a stay at home Mom with a family to take care of (plus Summer the cat), this is somewhat restricting, never mind the finances to fund my said wanderlust.

The solution? A road trip to celebrate my birthday! As we recently spent a long weekend away with friends, kids and dogs in the Matroosberg, Ceres, we asked Granny to spend the weekend at home with our son Daniel and Summer. Woo hoo! An awesome road trip, just hubby and I on the open road, from Cape Town to Prince Albert in the Great Karoo, stopping at padstals (farm stalls) along the way and anywhere else our hearts desired, plus amazing scenery. I’m a beach and forest kind of girl at heart, so why the Great Karoo? One of my other favourite things to do (I have a few!), is to enter competitions like a maniac and hopefully win a few along the way. Some say I’m lucky but I put in the hours. As the saying goes, you’ve got to be in it to win it. I was fortunate to win a weekend stay for 2 at the luxurious 4*Karoo View Cottages … The View Says It All on the outskirts of Prince Albert village, but more about this charming and quaint village later.
