5 Great reasons to visit Bodega Restaurant @ Dornier Wines, Stellenbosch

Winter is a magical time in the Cape winelands. Life out in the country seems to slow down to a gentler pace. Vines are hibernating; leafless trees stand like sentinels with majestic mountains as their backdrop, sometimes topped with a light dusting of snow. Roaring fireplaces and robust red wines take centre stage, along with hearty and delicious winter menus that set your soul on fire.

But when the cold, wintry weather sets in, there really is no need to go into full hibernation mode. Especially when Dornier Bodega Restaurant at Dornier Wines in the Stellenbosch winelands is offering a tantalizing 2 course Winter menu for R225 pp or R295 pp for 3 courses. Yes, you read that right!

I was kindly invited to sample their 3 course seasonal lunch at Bodega Restaurant and since I couldn’t resist, I happily accepted the invitation. It really had been too long since my last visit to this lovely wine estate.

Delight in the unexpected at Lily’s Restaurant

Let’s face it – Capetonians love to eat. And they love to eat great food. In 2016, Cape Town was voted as the best food city in the world by Conde Nast Traveler in the popular Readers’ Choice Awards survey. Being at the top of this list is no mean feat when battling it out with culinary heavyweights such as Dubai, Hong Kong and Buenos Aires, to name a few.

We really are spoilt for choice when it comes to dining out in the Mother City. From quirky little cafes, cosy bistros to tasty tapas spots and fine dining restaurants, we truly have it all. And new places are popping up constantly. There seems to be no shortage of new restaurants and other foodie hotspots that open on practically a weekly basis.

Of the many things I love about the beautiful Mother City, one of those I love the most is the amazing variety of markets we are so fortunate to have on our doorstep. The sheer number of markets out there is quite something.

What I don’t always love and want to do is leave the warmth and comfort of my home (ok, getting out from under the covers!) on a cold, winter’s day and braving the elements to drive to said market.
